How Britain Todd Started the Contours Rx Revolution
Like so many women, Britain Todd began to notice that as time went on, her skin wasn’t quite as taut as it once was. As a busy single mother in her thirties, she realized that her sagging eyelids seemed to get heavier by the day and she appeared tired no matter how rested she felt or how much makeup she applied. On top of life’s daily stresses, a family history of loose facial skin was also taking its toll on her appearance.
Britain decided to do something about it. But after a surgical consultation, she was told that she had two options: get surgery or live with her loss of facial elasticity.
Dissatisfied with her choices, Britain teamed up with a medical technology company to develop a third option: a cutting-edge, non-surgical beauty enhancement technology product line that women and men of all ages could benefit from to instantly reclaim their confidence. The revolutionary eyelid correcting strip was born.
Since 2014, Britain has helped thousands of people look and feel their best with groundbreaking products like LIDS BY DESIGN. Her desire for high quality products combined with her passion for beauty and entrepreneurial spirit sets Contours Rx apart and allows everyone to see themselves in their best light. By creating safe and effective alternatives for those who don’t want or don’t qualify for surgery, Britain has singlehandedly transformed the beauty industry.
What was the deciding point to produce the Contours? Did it take a long time to think your invention as a business, or did you just jump right in? How long did it take to get to market after you started?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, thinking of ideas that would be useful to others as well as myself. When I was in my 40’s, I decided it was finally time to see if anything could be done about my sagging eyelids, which were prematurely aging me and nearly impacting my vision. When I went in for the consultation, the surgeon took a pencil to my eyelid to roll the skin and said, “Sure, we can cut some off, when do you want to come in?” I’m sure that doctor would have done a fine job, but the ambiguity of what I was going to look like after scared me. I thought about it and I saw two problems with my experience: first, why doesn’t the surgeon have something that will allow my to see my after result before going under the knife (that doesn’t involve a pencil going in my eye) and second, why isn’t there a non-surgical solution to this problem? Given my knack for diving into things head first, Contours Rx was born not too long after that consultation and I haven’t looked back!
What were your main challenges to get to market?
The biggest challenge was creating a space for us in the industry, people we encountered had never heard of anything like LIDS BY DESIGN, so it took a lot of convincing that we were not only legitimate but the best at what we created. Once we did that though, our loyal following grew exponentially.
Did you test the product on other women first to see if they would be used and liked, or did you go to market on how the Contours worked for you?
I most certainly threw a lot of prototyped lids on my girlfriends during dinner parties and such, pretty shamelessly I might add. I always wanted their input outside of my own with regard to how the product could be improved and made more accessible to everyone.
What was your background before starting with your invention of Contours?
I worked as an estate planner for sometime, always staying connected to the financial/insurance industry in some way. No matter what I was doing, I noticed right away that I was a talented woman in a male-dominated field; which meant I had to prove myself and my value more often than not. I look back on those moments and realize that they have strengthened and empowered me to do the work I am now so passionate about.
